Bio
I was born at GBMC in Baltimore and grew up in Havre de Grace. I played three sports at Havre de Grace High School and spent my first two years of college at Harford Community College, where I played baseball. I graduated from Towson University with a degree in mass communications in 2005.
I spent my first seven months in journalism at The Aegis in Bel Air, covering local sports. I joined the launch staff of The Baltimore Examiner in 2006, and covered virtually everything in the Baltimore sports world over the next three years. Prior to joining Patch this summer, I worked as a freelance reporter and broadcaster, and as the varsity baseball coach at Havre de Grace High School.
I currently reside in Harford County with my wife, Liz, a fellow Havre de Grace High alum and a 2005 graduate of Goucher College, our two-year-old daughter, Chloe, our newborn son, Ian, and black lab puppy, Sadie.
Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics
How would you describe your political beliefs? Are you registered with a certain party?
I consider myself a very quiet observer on all political conversation. I am open-minded, registered Democrat, and typically rely first on my keen judge of character when making my own personal decision at the voting booth.
Religion
How religious would you consider yourself?
I was baptized Methodist, but rarely attended regular Sunday services while growing up. My wife and I occasionally attend service at Grace Episcopal Church in Darlington, where we were married. We're hoping, as we settle back into Havre de Grace, to re-involve ourselves in regular Sunday services.
Local Hot-Button Issues
What do you think are the most important issues facing the community? Where do you stand on each of these issues?
The new Harford Memorial hospital, BRAC, development, the impact of the new Hollywood Casino in Perryville, did I mention BRAC? Also—the tight-rope walk of keeping businesses in the downtown district while also re-populating the Route 40 commercial region of Havre de Grace is critical.
