Students at Glenmar Elementary School were treated to an explosive lesson plan on Friday. As part of a unit on rocketry, Glenmar fifth-graders spent part of Friday afternoon launching rockets from the school ball field as the rest of the student body watched. Teams of students each spent about an hour constructing their 13 water-powered rockets from soda bottles, red plastic cups, paper plates and tape. The goal was to beat the height set by rocketry pioneer Robert Goddard in his 1926 demonstration—41 feet high in 2.5 seconds spent in the air.
