Prep Wrestling: Eastern Tech Sweeps Tri-Meet

The Mavericks cruised to easy victories over Lansdowne and Western Tech.

Sam Caravello (113), Stephen Beam (138), Dustin Shackleford (145), Ilya Usik (152) and Mitchell Burns (195) recorded two pins each as Eastern Tech swept a tri-meet Tuesday against Lansdowne and Western Tech. Against Lansdowne, Eastern Tech (6-3) won 62-15 before winning all but one match in a 73-4 victory over Western Tech. The victory came after Eastern Tech placed six wrestlers but had no individual champions at the Franklin Invitational in Reisterstown. Eastern Tech returns to the mat at 4 p.m. Thursday at Catonsville. Prep Sports: Kenwood, Eastern Tech Post Big Wins

The Kenwood girls basketball team tops Overlea while Eastern Tech's wrestling squad defeated Towson on Monday night.

Dashawna West had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals as Kenwood's girls basketball team defeated Overlea, 58-23, on Monday night in Essex. Cierra Wilson had 6 points, 4 assists and three steals while Janaye Eaddy pulled down 8 rebounds, scored 8 points, and had 4 steals for the Bluebirds (7-2). Kenwood dominated the game from the start as it led 24-8 after the first quarter and 31-10 at halftime. The Bluebirds also finished with 20 steals in the game. Kenwood returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when it plays at Catonsville. Baltimore County Schools Kick Off Football Postseason

Chesapeake among seven county schools begin their bids for a state title beginning with the regional semifinals this weekend.

Baltimore County will be well represented when the MPSSAA football playoffs kick off this weekend. Seven area schools qualified for the postseason, with each school hoping it can advance to the state finals on Dec. 2-3 at M&T Bank Stadium. The Class 4A finals is set for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 2; Class 1A will play at noon on Dec. 3, followed by the Class 2A finals at 3:30 p.m and the Class 3A state finals at 7 p.m. Here are complete previews of the regional semifinal games involving Baltimore County schools. Prep Football: Big Second Half Leads Franklin Over Eastern Tech

In a first half where he completed just one of five passes and absorbed three punishing Eastern Tech sacks, Franklin quarterback Jackson Thornton said he couldn’t have imagined things getting much worse. Then, the third quarter finally rolled around. Following a Mavericks’ three-and-out to start the half, Thornton connected on a 59-yard bomb to wide out Reggie Ellis that put the Indians ahead, 7-2, and swung the momentum in favor of a Franklin squad, and crowd, that had seemingly been waiting all game to erupt. On Eastern Tech’s ensuing drive, Mavericks' quarterback Kyle Bosserman seemed primed to answer, scampering for 26 yards on third down to put his offense near midfield. Prep Football: Eastern Tech up to the Challenge

Mavericks begin run in Class 3A with road game at 2010 state finalist Franklin.

Eastern Tech coach Marc Mesaros knows that observers of his football program are always waiting to see when the run of success will end at the Essex school. For much of the last decade, the Mavericks have been one of the top programs in the state. During Mesaros’ nine-year run, Eastern Tech is 86-15 with three state title appearances, winning a championship in Class 2A in 2009. The Mavericks are coming off an 11-2 record, which included a 2A North title before losing in the state semifinals at Middletown of Frederick County. The road to another region title will be more difficult this season as Eastern Tech moves up to Class 3A.
