The Mavericks score five runs in the first inning en route to an 18-1 victory over Dulaney.
Freshman infielder Breanna Casper went 3-for-4 with a grandslam and drove in six runs overall as Eastern Tech defeated Dulaney in a game halted after five innings. Eastern Tech scored 11 runs over the first two innings, which included a leadoff homerun by senior outfielder Alexis Peay. She went 3-for-5 on the day. Senior second baseman Allison Williams hit a two-run homer and sophomore pitcher Jordan Cargile allowed a run on four hits and struck out one to pick up the win for the Mavericks (10-2). Cargile also helped her own cause as she went 4-for-4 with an RBI at the plate. Eastern Tech, which has won four straight, next plays at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at Owings Mills. Lions rally in second half in 26-20 win over Bluebirds in Essex.
Kenwood appeared ready to start the season strong Saturday against visiting Dulaney. The Bluebirds jumped out to a 20-0 first half lead thanks in part to touchdown runs of 24 and 40 yards by senior running back Travis Jenkins and a 10-yard interception return for a touchdown by Earl Smith — all in the second quarter. However, Dulaney rallied in the second half as quarterback Dre’ Lewis connected with running back/wide reciever D.J. Foster for a 46-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter in a 26-20 win at Michael J. Collins Stadium in Essex. The loss represented Kenwood’s first season-opening defeat since 2001. “I had good blocking, I read the holes right, and I picked up the yards...[but] we need to play hard for the whole game, all four…

The Bluebirds look to be competitive in a loaded 3A/4A league following a 2-8 season.
Despite finishing 2-8 last season, Kenwood football coach Anthony J. Ruocco feels his team has the experience and talent to make waves in Baltimore County’s tough 3A-4A league. Ruocco looks to returning All-County running back Travis Jenkins and new starting quarterback A.J. Moulden to lead his wing-t/wildcat offense. Jenkins, who rushed for more than 1,000 rushing yards last season while providing highlight plays in the return game, is a diminutive back with great acceleration and the ability to make great cuts. “We have had a long tradition of good running backs,” Ruocco said. “We want to establish the running game with Travis both on sweeps and inside runs, and that will open up the play-action passing game for A.J.” Moulden, who beat …

Richardson scores 12 points, grabs 8 rebounds in 54-36 win for Bluebirds.
Kenwood coach Chris Kelly knew before the Bluebirds’ matchup against Dulaney that if his team took dvantage of their athleticism, they had a very good shot at a win. In short, the Bluebirds did just that en route to a 54-36 victory over the visiting Lions on Friday night in Essex. This was a much different game than the last meeting between the two schools when Kenwood won 65-62 at Dulaney in December. This time Kenwood (11-7) got off to a strong start, going on a 10-5 run in the first five minutes of the game, and outscoring Dulaney (5-12) 18-7 in the first quarter. After cutting the deficit to single digits by halftime, the Lions went cold in the third quarter, only converting one field goal from the field in the quarter, and only …

The inexperienced Kenwood squad could not overcome early Dulaney pins.
Going into Thursday night's match with Dulaney, Kenwood coach Rob Knudsen knew his young squad would be challenged but had faith in his heavyweight wrestlers to bring home some victories. “Coming into here tonight I knew they were strong from 103 through 152,” Knudsen said. "That is exactly where they beat us. You can see we are well balanced in the upper weights. I think we are doing great for a team of mostly first- and second-year wrestlers.” The match started out as Knudsen predicted, Dulaney jumped out to an insurmountable lead, recording five pins and receiving four forfeits over Kenwood in the first nine weight classes en route to a 57-22 victory in Essex. However, Walter Dolata (171) proved his coach right that the Bluebirds are …

No one is talking about 'the girls" Lori. I love how parents automatically throw out the "it's all about the kids" crap when any conversation comes up about high school or rec sports. People are allowed to speak about high school sports. This topic is about the coach and the administration that is allowing recruiting to occur at Eastern Tech across multiple sports, not just softball.   more ›
