Essex-Middle River Weather: Chances of Rain This Week

A thunderstorm is in the forecast for Friday.

Rain is back in the picture in this week's forecast. Showers are possible nearly the entire week, according to the National Weather Service forecast for the area. Highs won't get above the low 70s. The highest possibility of rain is on Friday, where the forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms, but the clouds should start to clear up starting Saturday, according to the forecast. The Orioles are back in action Tuesday evening against the Tampa Bay Rays as they start a nine-game homestand. Rain delays may be possible later in the week.

Forecast: Up to 10 Inches Snow Could Fall in Essex by Wednesday

Wednesday will be filled with snow, rain and wind with 3-8 inches of snow expected to stack up during the day, and some more at night.

Parts of the Baltimore area already had about 3 inches of rain and snow overnight, but more snow, up to 11 inches in some communities, could fall by Wednesday night. A winter storm warning is in effect for the larger region: the Baltimore and Washington area, through 3 a.m. Thursday, when as much as 12 inches of snow could fall, according to the National Weather Service. "Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous," the warning states. "Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency." Snow, Sleet Forecasted for Friday

The National Weather Service reports that the wintry mix is slated to begin after noon.

Those planning to leave the office for lunch may want to stay indoors Friday. The National Weather Service predicts that rain and sleet are likely to start after noon. Snow and sleet accumulation are anticipated to be less than half an inch, with temperatures near 39, according to the weather agency. The rain and snow are expected to return after midnight, and a precipitation amount of less than a tenth of an inch is possible.

Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Baltimore Metro

Rain and show showers are expected to start early Saturday morning.

Following a mild Friday, the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Baltimore metro area. Rain and snow are likely after 1 a.m. Saturday, the weather agency predicts. The overnight snow accumulation is expected to be less than half an inch, with temperatures around 38 degrees. Snow and rain are forecasted to continue intermittently throughout the day on Saturday, with temperatures near 43 degrees and an additional less than half inch of snow accumulation. The weather agency also anticipates snow between midnight and 2 a.m. Sunday, with a low around 32. Hazardous Weather Forecasted for Baltimore Metro

A wintry mix is predicted for Thursday night.

Winter storm Nemo may be pounding the New York City area with 30 inches of snow, but Baltimore metro residents are in for much milder winter weather. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook  for central Maryland, the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, northern Virginia and D.C. The outlook warns of a possible light wintry mix and freezing rain. Rain that may be mixed with snow and sleet is expected to fall Thursday night, and will turn to all rain after 4 a.m. Friday, according to the weather agency. Winter Weather Continues in Baltimore Metro

The first bout of snow is expected to strike late Monday afternoon.

Motorists should exercise caution and plan for extra travel time as snow is expected to hit the Baltimore metro area late Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service predicts a chance of snow showers, starting after 4 p.m., although daytime  snow accumulation is anticipated to be less than half an inch. Snow is likely to start up again before 1 a.m. Tuesday, adding approximately another inch of snow, according to the weather site. Temperatures are expected fluctuate between a high near 33 and a low near 29. The tornado watch & flood advisories cover much of Maryland Wednesday night into Thursday.

(Update 8:00 p.m.)—The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for 10 Maryland counties. Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's, Carroll, Harford Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties were listed on the weather site's alert. The watch is in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday. Harford, Carroll, Howard, Northern Baltimore, Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties, and South Baltimore are under flood advisories until 4 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rain is expected with a thunderstorm possible Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. A coastal flood advisory has been issued for Harford County from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday. In a news release, Baltimore Gas & Electric warned residents to prepare for possible power outages. Snow in Saturday's Forecast for Essex Area

Two to 4 inches of snow may fall in parts of Baltimore County on Dec. 29.

Essex, Middle River and the rest of the Baltimore area will get another round of snow before the new year begins, according to the National Weather Service. Snow will start falling overnight Friday through late Saturday afternoon in Baltimore County, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Approximately 2 to 4 inches will fall, the report said. However, don't count on it sticking around very long. CBS Baltimore's weather page says to expect it to turn to rain by the afternoon. ‘Substantial’ Winter Storm Possible Next Week

AccuWeather is warning of a storm possibly bringing snow, power outages and coastal flooding next week.

A "substantial" winter storm could blow its way through Maryland by the middle of next week, according to the weather website AccuWeather. The website’s current forecast predicts a potential for rain that could turn into snow, with coastal flooding and power outages. “While the details are still uncertain, a larger, slower-moving and more powerful storm could slam the mid-Atlantic and New England with heavy precipitation, strong winds and above-normal tides Tuesday (Dec. 18) into Thursday (Dec. 20),” according to an email from AccuWeather. The current forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a chance of rain through the early part of next week, but doesn’t currently predict any snow for the area.

I am from Kentucky and we too check squirrel tales as good predictors however here in Baltimore Wooly Caterpillars are the standard and they are fat little suckers this year.
