Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges …

Barack Obama Wins Maryland

Voters in Maryland on Tuesday gave the state's 10 electoral votes to Barack Obama.

Barack Obama won Maryland’s 10 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Republican Mitt Romney. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Democratic candidate, and since the 1990s has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race three out of five times. Romney and Obama did not campaign aggressively in Maryland. The state has typically been a Democratic stronghold in recent presidential elections.  ABC and CNN reported Obama had won Maryland within 30 minutes of the polls closing around the state. » Follow live election updates here and 'like' our Maryland Patch Facebook page. Obama-Romney Final Presidential Debate: Who Won?

The third presidential debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney focused on foreign policy. Who dominated? We want to know what Maryland thinks.

After President Obama and former Gov. Mitt Romney sparred aggressively last week, the candidates dug into foreign policy at Monday night's third and final presidential debate. News organizations cited instant polls that showed voters believed both candidates did well in a face-off that was less contentious than past debates this season but offered up a few verbal highlights. The two candidates had extensive exchanges on Iran and Syria, and the importance of the U.S.-Israel alliance. Obama responded to a charge by Romney that the Navy had fewer ships than it did in 1916. “We also have fewer horses and bayonets,” said Obama. Whom do you think won the debate? Tell us in comments. -- TV Channels Broadcasting Live: ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, CNN, …

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney headed on a "blue state" tour after picking his running mate.

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney headed for a campaign stop Saturday at Harris Pavilion in Manassas, VA, on a bus tour of "blue" states that did not include Maryland.  Romney announced Saturday morning in Norfolk that he selected Rep. Paul Ryan, R-WI, as his running mate. Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell joined Romney and Ryan at the campaign stop at the USS Wisconsin, a retired battleship that is now a museum. Romney's tour stopped at Randolph-Macon college in Ashland, VA, and Manassas was to be his final bus stop on Saturday. The bus tour will continue on to North Carolina, Florida and Ohio Sunday through Tuesday. Various road closures were in effect Saturday as Romney campaigned in Virginia, considered a battleground state in the …

You Said It: Marylanders Offer GOP Support

Turnout for the primary election was light in Baltimore County, but many of those who came out offered passionate support for their candidate.

Brian Brocki wanted to make sure his son Zach understood the importance of voting. So, the Essex man took Zach, 14, with him as he cast his ballot at Eastern Technical High School in Tuesday's primary election. The fact that there were few people who actually cast votes made the lesson even more important. "I wanted to make sure that when he's old enough that he understands that voting is his duty," said Brocki, who came out in part to vote for Mitt Romney in the Republican presidential race. Brocki joined the majority of Maryland's GOP voters as multiple media outlets declared Romney the winner of the state's primary almost immediately after the polls closed at 8 p.m. Essex resident Raymond Schweiger agrees with Brocki. "I voted for …
