PHOTOS: Rockin' On The River

Faded Image and HyJinx headlined the event, which had hundreds turn out at Conrad's Ruth Villa in Middle River to help the Marine Trades Association of Baltimore County.

Hundreds of people turned out Sunday to Conrad's Ruth Villa in Middle River to hear popular regional bands Faded Image and HyJinx rock out while supporting a good cause. That cause was the Marine Trades Association of Baltimore County, which was the beneficiary of the inaugural "Rockin' on the River" festival. The River Watch Restaurant, along with the East County Times, co-sponsored the event, whose proceeds after expenses will benefit the association's Scholarship and Education Fund. Debbie Henninger, who helped organize the event with community activist Don Crockett, said she was pleased with the turnout, although she is still calculating just how much was raised and how many people attended. "We had people coming up to us and asking …

Sunset Cove Shines Bright in Bowleys Quarters

The new restaurant has had a steady stream of customers since it opened April 11 at the site of the former Wild Duck Cafe.

Dave Steele originally just wanted a place to play music when he and his brothers bought their first restaurant more than 20 years ago. Today, Steele and his family own and operate four successful restaurants in the Baltimore metropolitan area, including their latest in Bowleys Quarters. Sunset Cove, located at 3408 Red Rose Farm Road, opened April 11 at the site of the former Wild Duck Café. The restaurant joins the list of establishments owned by Dave and Scott Steele that include the Gunpowder Lodge in Kingsville and Hickory Lodge and Freddie’s in Bel Air. Dave Steele said they weren’t necessarily looking to add to their restaurant portfolio, but when the Wild Duck Café became available last year, it was too good an opportunity to …

Faded Image Ready to 'Rock the River'

The popular local band will join HyJinx on June 3 to headline the inaugural "Rockin' the River" festival at Conrad's Ruth Villa in Middle River.

Rob Baier said he just loves music. It was that joy that led Baier to help found the band, Faded Image, 15 years ago. In the years since then, Faded Image has become one of the most popular local bands in the region. Baier, along with bandmates Stuart Sadler (drums/vocals), John Goodman (guitar) and Brian White (bass), play around 60 dates a year across Maryland, Virginia and as far south as Key West, Fla. It is that popularity that led the Marine Trades Association of Baltimore County to book Faded Image, along with HyJinx to headline the inaugural "Rockin' the River" festival. The festival is set to run from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. June 3 at Conrad's Ruth Villa in Middle River. The cost of the event is $10, with food, beer and soda available for…

Vandals Strike Middle River Church Again

Orems United Methodist Church is seeking community assistance following a rash of vandalism against the church over the last year.

Orems United Methodist Church has been a part of the Middle River community since 1773. During that time, parishioners say the church has gone through its ups and downs. Yet, several members of the congregation believe the last year may be the one of the most trying in its 239-year history. Follow Essex-Middle River Patch on Facebook and Twitter and receive daily updates through our newsletters. Over the last year, vandals have caused thousands of dollars in damage to the church, including Sunday night when someone smashed the entrance sign and seven windows in the building. This came a month after five windows were broken at the church’s Sunday school, church administrative assistant Vicki Borreson said. The church is also still …

Arrival of World War II Bombers Delayed

Rain and poor visual conditions forced the Commemorative Air Force to push back to Tuesday its trip to Martin State Airport.

Poor weather conditions have forced the delay of the arrival of three World War II bombers, set to be at Martin State Airport Monday afternoon. Commemorative Air Force spokeswoman Kim Pardon said the weather made it impossible for the three bombers—a B-29 "Fifi," a B-24 and a P-51 Mustang—to arrive in Middle River. "Unfortunately, this happens from time to time," said Pardon, who added that the aircraft are coming from Lexington, KY. "The weather is not something we can always plan for." Pardon said the delay will mean the bombers will now only be in Maryland on Tuesday and Wednesday. The visit is part of the Maryland Aviation Museum's 100th anniversary celebration of the Glenn L. Martin Co. Whether the bombers will be able to arrive …
