Tyler Waldman: It's Good to be Back

Essex-Middle RIver Patch editor Tyler Waldman is back at his laptop today.

Sorry, I just stepped out for a bit. Did I miss anything? Jokes aside, it's good to be officially back in the game today, just over a month after a pretty bad car accident in Towson the Monday after Thanksgiving. I know Patch readers in the Baltimore area have read the details of what happened in the last month, and many have shared their concern here and on Facebook and Twitter. It was a rough crash. I don't remember a bit of it myself—all comes from what I've been told and what I've read—but that much I know. That's why I was taken to Shock Trauma, and that's why I spent nearly three weeks in hospitals. Many friends, family members and even a few sources old and new dropped by my room at University of Maryland Medical Center or Sinai …

Patchy Birthday: Essex-Middle River Patch Turns 2

Essex-Middle River Patch opened Nov. 1, 2010.

If you visited Essex-Middle River Patch on Nov. 1, 2010, this was the first thing you saw. Former editor Ron Snyder opened this site the day after Halloween and since then, Essex-Middle River Patch has become a top resource for news, events and information across the community. From elections to Essex Day, from school sports to the Blue Angels, and whether it's happening in on the water, on the road, in the schools or at your favorite pizza shop, we're there for you. And remember, you're part of the conversation, too. Sign up for our newsletter, share photos, post events or even start a blog. Thanks, and here's to many more years of Essex-Middle River Patch.

Help Your Editor Find a New Wi-Fi Perch

Tyler Waldman is looking for a good place to get work done.

Several weeks since taking the helm here at Essex-Middle River Patch, I've learned the places and people, but one thing has eluded me: a real place in town to grab a cup of coffee, hop on the wi-fi and get some stuff done. Thus far, I've had to settle for the Essex Library (where phone calls are out of the question) and Panera Bread up on Pulaski Highway in Rosedale. So I thought I'd throw it to the audience: Where should I go? Bonus: I'd like to get "office hours" going now and then, so when I get settled, look out for those.

Hello, Essex-Middle River!

Introducing the new editor of Essex-Middle River Patch!

Hello everyone! I'm Tyler Waldman, and I'm the new local editor for Essex-Middle River Patch. I know I have big shoes to fill in following my friend Ron Snyder, who left Patch in June. You may recognize my byline, however. I've been with Patch since June 2010, and was the founding editor for Towson Patch. I'm a Lutherville native, and a 2010 Towson University graduate. Though I didn't spend a whole lot of time on the east side while growing up, Essex always seemed to me like a vibrant, vital community, much like Towson. At Patch, I've covered everything from hurricanes and earthquakes to local politics and people doing good works in the community. I'm still getting my footing in the Essex area. I'm learning my way around, scoping out good …
