The Dundalk restaurant wins bragging rights in Fox 45's best hamburger tournament.
Even with the power of its location (Oriole Park at Camden Yards) and the crowds of the Baltimore Orioles' home-opening weekend series, Dempsey's Brew Pub and restaurant was no match for Donna's Tavern and Restaurant of Dundalk. The Pine Avenue's Crabby Patty defeated Dempsey's and its Dempsey Burger—described as a freshly ground chuck burger topped with sharp cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, red onions, lettuce and tomato—in the finals of the Fox 45-TV Burger Bracket contest to name Baltimore's Best Burger. Donna's Tavern and Restaurant faces an uphill battle against Dempsey's Brew Pub just as baseball season kicks off.
There's good news and bad news for Donna's Tavern and Restaurant as it pursues its claim to being the home of Baltimore's best hamburger. The Pine Avenue eatery has advanced to the final round of Fox 45's Burger Bracket competition to name the metropolitan area's best burger. In voting that ended Sunday night, Donna's defeated the Greene Turtle of Hunt Valley. But the restaurant's next opponent, Dempsey's Brew Pub and Restaurant, has a distinct home field advantage this week as the final round of voting takes place. The pub, named for former Baltimore Orioles catcher Rick Dempsey, is located at Oriole Park at Camden Yards where, of course, the baseball season begins this week. The folks at Donna's Tavern and Restaurant are collecting items to benefit the children at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Local residents are encouraged to donate items on the hospital's wish list, which can be viewed in the media section of this article. Donations may be dropped off at the restaurant, 6607 Pine Ave., through Dec. 16. Residents unable to drop items off in person can send an email to Heather at hes1902@aol.com to arrange for pickup. The Baltimore Ravens Playmakers will be at the restaurant from 8 to 9 p.m. Dec. 14. Donors can drop off wish list items and then enjoy beer specials and perhaps get an autograph or a give-away item from the Playmakers.
