Bowleys Quarters Brush Fire Sparks Eagle Alert

The April 2 fire spread across Carroll Island, a home for the bald eagles.

A large brush fire that burned for hours in Bowleys Quarters on April 2 put protected wildlife in jeopardy. The property that went up in flames Tuesday on the 1000 block of Carroll Island Road caused two pairs of bald eagles to flee their nests, according to WJZ. Bald eagles are a protected species, taken off the endangered species list in 2007, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. There are approximately 400 pairs of bald eagles that nest together in Maryland. Drawn to habitats near undisturbed coastlines and rivers, bald eagles have made their home on Carroll Island, which the Environmental Protection Agency says is a designated bald eagle habitat. From what I understand they didn't let the fire department go in on ground level because it was too dangerous because of all the chemicals and unexploded ordinances that are buried on the property. And that you could smell the chemicals from which the fire was burning. I believe this will be covered up as most things are that the government doesn't want the public to know!   more ›

Multiple Crews Fight Brush Fire in Bowleys Quarters

Baltimore County firefighters were dispatched to Carroll Island Road Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were working to bring a brush fire under control in Bowleys Quarters Tuesday morning, according to Baltimore County Public Safety. The blaze on the 1000 block of Carroll Island Road was reported after 9 a.m. and firefighters were still working the scene as of 10 a.m. Tuesday. There was an increased risk of brush fires Tuesday in Baltimore County, according to the National Weather Service. This article was updated.

Bowleys Quarters Community to Discuss Development Project

The Bowleys Quarters Community Association is meeting on Tuesday, March 26.

Citizens can hear plans from developers during Tuesday's meeting of the Bowleys Quarters Community Association. Michael Archer of Bowleys Quarters Gateway Development will be the speaker at the association's March 26 general membership meeting. Archer is involved in planning a 10-acre project at Bowleys Quarters and Carroll Island Road that includes nearly 200 units, according to Avenue News; previously, the land contained a boat repair shop and welding business. The Bowleys Quarters Community Association will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church (3620 Red Rose Farm Road).

The community organizations certainly considered the impact more housing will have on the roads in the area. Will the roads there be able to handle additional traffic that we usually experience during the summer months ? Have a lot of faith in the organizations that they asked all the right questions. Ruppersberger to Speak at BQIA Meeting

U.S. Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger will speak at Thursday evening's Bowleys Quarters Improvement Association meeting. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the association's meeting hall at 1124 Bowleys Quarters Rd. The meeting is free and open to the public. Ruppersberger, a Baltimore County Democrat, faces Republican state Sen. Nancy Jacobs in his bid for a sixth term next month.

Sunset Cove Shines Bright in Bowleys Quarters

The new restaurant has had a steady stream of customers since it opened April 11 at the site of the former Wild Duck Cafe.

  Dave Steele originally just wanted a place to play music when he and his brothers bought their first restaurant more than 20 years ago. Today, Steele and his family own and operate four successful restaurants in the Baltimore metropolitan area, including their latest in Bowleys Quarters. Sunset Cove, located at 3408 Red Rose Farm Road, opened April 11 at the site of the former Wild Duck Café. The restaurant joins the list of establishments owned by Dave and Scott Steele that include the Gunpowder Lodge in Kingsville and Hickory Lodge and Freddie’s in Bel Air. Fire Breaks Out at Bowleys Quarters Home

No injuries were reported following the Monday morning blaze in the 400 block of Kosoak Road.

  There were no reports of injuries following a Monday morning fire at a Bowleys Quarters home, authorities said. The fire began around 9 a.m. in the basement of a middle-of-group row home in the 400 block of Kosoak Road, said Baltimore County police spokeswoman Louise Rogers-Feher. Rogers-Feher added that at 9:16 a.m. firefighters on the scene reported ammunition going off, but could not offer any further specifics as to the source. Firefighters reported that they had the fire under control by 9:24 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Stick with Patch for updates.

Essex Crime: Trailer Set Ablaze in Bowleys Quarters

Baltimore County police are investigating what caused a trailer, used to store old tools and other items, to catch on fire on Saturday in Bowleys Quarters. According to police reports, the fire was reported around 6 p.m. Saturday on the 400 block of Bowleys Quarters Road. The trailer is located behind the site of the former Mama Maria’s Restaurant, which has been vacant for several years. No one was injured in the blaze, which was extinguished by crews from the Baltimore County Fire Department and the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Department. Police Arrest Two in Bowleys Quarters Vandalism Cases

Officers allege that those arrested are responsible for more than 50 cases of vandalism in the community over the last month.

  Baltimore County police arrested two people early Thursday in connection with a string of vandalism cases that have occurred over the last month in Bowleys Quarters. Officers allege that Lamountray Hampton-Williams, 18, of the unit block of Bayville Rd., and a 17-year-old boy are responsible for 53 cases of destruction of property. Essex Precinct Captain Steven Hlavach told Patch that officers received a call around 3 a.m. about two people spray-painting mailboxes on Nollmeyer Road in Bowleys Quarters. Swastika Spray-Painted on Another Bowleys Quarters Vehicle

The latest incident comes after the property of more than three dozen residents in the same community was vandalized in a similar fashion last month.

Police are investigating whether an incident of vandalism in which a pickup truck in Bowleys Quarters was spray painted with a racial slur on Thursday may be related to vandalism last month. The truck's owner told police that some time on Thursday he discovered that someone had spray-painted a backward swastika on his 2001 Dodge Ram, which was parked at the intersection of Carrollwood Road and Blue Heron Court. A neighbor told police that he saw two males riding skateboards around 9 p.m. before stopping at the victim’s vehicle, according to police reports.
