Poll: Orioles Schedule Conflicts with Ravens’ Plans

The NFL would like the Ravens to open their season at home on Sept. 5, but the O’s already have a game scheduled.

Traditionally the Super Bowl champions get to play at home on the opening night of the season, but a scheduling conflict with the Orioles may make that impossible for the Ravens. The NFL would like to schedule the Ravens to open at home on Sept. 5, but the Orioles already have a home game with the Chicago White Sox. Moving the Ravens game back a day is not an option because of Rosh Hashanah. Vote in our poll and tell us how you'd handle it. Have a better idea? Share it with a comment below.

The Baltimore Metro area was expecting between 5 and 11 inches of snow during this week's winter storm. See how many inches have fallen in your area with the LIVE map below.

The map above, provided by the National Weather Service, shows total snowfall in your Patch area over the past 3 days. The map is centered around the red marker, which is in the middle of your Patch's coverage area, and the map updates every six hours, starting around 2 a.m. each day. It updates as Skywarn volunteers file their reports, so check back later to see more accurate statistics. Note: This map is not visible on some mobile devices. The effects of the snowstorm that began Tuesday night have been hit-or-miss throughout the Baltimore Metro area, about 5 inches fell in Westminster but less than 1 inch in Parkville, for example, according to the map. The National Weather Service had forecast that 4-11 inches of snow would accumulate …

Snowstorm Could Drop Up to 10 inches in Baltimore Metro Area

Most communities could see 4-8 inches total, but Randallstown, Owings Mills and Reisterstown could get the most, at up to 10 inches from Tuesday night through Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

As the snowstorm approaches, and the forecast gets more specific, it looks like the Baltimore Metro area could get up to about 8 inches of snow from late Tuesday night through Wednesday night. However, Owings Mills and Reisterstown could get more, at up to 10 inches, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather watch, including snow, is in effect for the county, as well as for the Baltimore and D.C. metro areas. During this time, wind gusts could get as high as 35 mph. Combined with heavy snow, there could be power outages, it states. BGE is bringing in 500 extra employees to help with service repairs and 1,750 of its own crews to be ready in case of "hundreds of thousands of outages in its service area, according to a news …

Beer Pitchman, Hip-Hop Duo Headline Preakness InfieldFest

The annual running of the Preakness Stakes is the largest event held in North Baltimore.

For an event often associated with imbibing, it makes a certain amount of sense to name the pitchman for a popular beer the headliner of Preakness InfieldFest. Pitbull, a recording artist who appears in Bud Light commercials, as well as hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, will headline this year’s Preakness InfieldFest set for May 18. The Maryland Jockey Club announced the performers for the InfieldFest, a party held in the infield of Pimlico Race Course during Preakness, in a news release on Monday. "InfieldFest at the Preakness enters its fifth year positioned as the region’s biggest, best and most unique party," Maryland Jockey Club President Tom Chuckas said in a news release. "There is no other event where fans can revel so …

Open Thread: Share Your Predictions for the 2013 O’s

Pitchers and catchers reported to spring training in Sarasota, Fla. on Tuesday with sky-high expectations following the team’s first winning season since the 1990s.

Last year, the O’s took their fans on an unexpected trip to the post season. The team, which was nearly universally picked to finish last in the AL East before the 2012 season, won 93 games, and went a ridiculous 29-9 in one run games. Many knowledgeable baseball writers still believe the success had more to do with luck than the skill of the Orioles. After all, the team only outscored their opponents by seven runs during the season, and using Pythagorean winning percentage, the team should have only finished 82-80, according to Baseball Reference. An offseason that saw no major additions to the roster, and a few key departures such as Mark Reynolds, has only added to the belief that the birds will return to being the punching bag for the …

I predict that I will be very happy when the season begins and I hope the O's do even better than last season. I went to a record number of games last year. I'd like to repeat that again too, although I can't make prediction on that yet.   more ›

VIDEO: Cockeysville Man Rides His Bike From Timonium to New Orleans For Ray Lewis Charity

OK not exactly. But local man Rick Ray did log 1,100 miles on a stationary bike at the Maryland Athletic Club this week, raising more than $2,600 for the RL52 Foundation in the process.

Cockeysville man Rick Ray last week honored his favorite Raven Ray Lewis with his own sort of "last ride." Ray rode his bike the distance between Timonium and the Superdome in New Orleans—the site of Super Bowl XLVII—raising thousands for the RL52 Foundation. “And still I have a very hard time sitting down as we speak,” Ray said.  And he did it all without leaving the Maryland Athletic Club. “After doing this, the road would’ve been easier. I swear to God. Even with all the elements,” Ray said. A long-time gym member at MAC Timonium, Ray proposed the idea two weeks ago to raise money for Ray Lewis' children's foundation by doing what he does best—working out. “I loved the idea to tie it into Ray Lewis," Ray said. "It’s the Super Bowl. It …
