Eastside Prep Sports Report

Eastern Tech Softball, Baseball Advance

The Mavericks move on to regional semifinals after winning on Monday.

Sophomore pitcher Jordan Cargile allowed no earned runs and seven hits and struck out seven as Eastern Tech's softball team advanced to the Class 3A North semifinals with an 8-1 victory over Aberdeen on Monday. Senior outfielder Alexis Peay had a triple and three runs scored and senior second baseman Allison Williams had a double and two RBIs for the Mavericks (20-2). Eastern Tech is scheduled to host Hereford in a regional semifinal game on  at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Hereford advanced with a 12-0 win over City. Softball: Eastern Tech Begins Postseason Push

Following last season's upset loss in the regional finals, the Mavericks seem ready to make a run at the program's first state title.

  Alexis Peay recalls the emotions she and the rest of the Eastern Tech softball team felt after losing to Lansdowne in the Class 2A North regional finals last season. The 5-1 defeat was the Mavericks first for the team and ended any chance of them winning the program's first state title. MLax: CCBC Essex Falls in National Semifinals

The Knights' season ends with a 14-8 loss to Nassau Community College on Saturday in New York.

CCBC Essex's bid to win its first NJCAA national title in men's lacrosse since 2004 came up two wins short. The third-seeded Knights  lost to Nassau Community College, 14-8, Saturday in a national semifinal game in Garden City, New York. The game was scoreless for the first 10 minutes, before Nassau scored three times in the final five minutes of the quarter.  CCBC Essex rallied to pull within 5-3 midway through the second quarter, but could not close the gap any further.  Host-Nassau now moves on to play top-seeded Onondaga Community College in Sunday's championship game. Onondaga advanced with a 15-6 vistory over Genesee Community College. As for CCBC Essex, it finishes its season 15-3, which included capturing the MD JUCO & Region XX …

MLax: CCBC Essex Prepares For National Title Run

The Knights face host Nassau Community College at 3:30 p.m. in an NJCAA national semifinal game.

CCBC Essex coach Shawn Burke said he tried to prepare his team for every possible scenario during the regular season in hopes of leading the Knights to the program’s first NJCAA national title since 2004. This included playing as many nationally-ranked teams as possible and playing back-to-back road games. Burke hopes all of that preparation will pay off this weekend as No. 3 CCBC Essex (15-2) plays host- and second-seeded Nassau Community College (14-3) in an NJCAA national semifinal game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in New York. The winners of that game will face the winner top-seeded Onondaga Community College (17-0) and fourth-ranked Geneese Community College (15-3) at 1 p.m. Sunday in the national title game. Softball: Eastern Tech Wins County Title

The Mavericks scored a combined eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 9-1 victory over Franklin at CCBC Catonsville.

Eastern Tech's dominant season continued Thursday as the Mavericks broke open a tied game with a late offensive explosion en route to a 9-1 victory over Franklin in the Baltimore County championship game at CCBC Catonsville. Freshman infielder Breanna Casper went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Eastern Tech (19-2), which scored four runs each in the fifth an sixth innings in a game that had been tied at 1-1. Senior second baseman Alison Williams went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while junior Laura Thacker and freshman Jen January also drove in two runs each and senior Alexis Peay had a triple and RBI for the Mavericks. I don't know who is #1. I don't think EVT is even #1 in 3A. I'll be surprised if the win the next two. I think the Hereford could go eith way. And I don't think they can beat whoever they play next. If Northern meets them in the semis Northern will win. But I do they EVT is a good team and will be a good team for years to come. Just not #1.   more ›

Softball: Eastern Tech, Chesapeake Earn Top Seeds

The Mavericks and Bayhawks earned a first-round bye in the regional playoffs.

  Eastern Tech and Chesapeake both earned top seeds in their respective regions. Eastern Tech, which will play Franklin in the Baltimore County championships Thursday at CCBC Catonsville, earned the top seed in the Class 3A North region. The Mavericks will host the winner of Aberdeen and Patapsco on Monday in a regional quarterfinal game. Chesapeake is the top-seeded team in the Class 2A North region and will host the winner of Randallstown and Douglass on Monday. Also, Kenwood is the eighth seed in the Class 4A North region and will host Blake in an opening round game on Thursday. Following Monday's quarterfinal round, the playoffs will continue with the regional semifinals on Wednesday and regional finals on Friday, May 18. The state …

Lax: Eastern Tech Boys, Kenwood Girls Advance

The Mavericks and Bluebirds now each move on to the regional quarterfinals following wins on Wednesday.

Senior attack Hunter Oleszczuk scored four goals as the Eastern Tech boys lacrosse team topped Patterson, 16-4, Wednesday in a Class 3A/2A North opening round game. Senior midfielder Sam Jackson and junior attack Charles Rice scored two goals each, while junior attack Bobby Walsh and  Dustin Stone had a goal and assist each for the Mavericks (6-9), who had 11 different players score. Also, goalies Wyatt Almond and Sam Miskiel had three and four saves, respectively, in the win. Eastern Tech now advances to the region quarterfinals and will play at 5:45 p.m. Friday at defending state champion Hereford. GLax: Essex Schools Set For Postseason Play

Kenwood, Eastern Tech have opening-round games set for Wednesday while Chesapeake has a bye into the regional quarterfinals.

Kenwood and Eastern Tech kick off their respective postseasons on Wednesday in opening round regional playoff games. Kenwood (6-8) is the 11th seed in the Class 4A/3A South region and will play at Parkville. Eastern Tech is the ninth seed in the Class 3A/2A North region and will play at 3:30 p.m. at Aberdeen. Chesapeake is the seventh seed in the Class 2A/1A North region and will play Western Tech at 4 p.m. Thursday at Arbutus Middle School. After Friday’s quarterfinals round, the region semifinals are set for May 14, followed by the region finals on May 16. The Bluebirds earned a first round bye in the 4A/3A South region while Eastern Tech and Chesapeake have opening round games in its regions on Wednesday.

Following a 12-2 regular season, Kenwood’s boys lacrosse team earned the third seed in the Class 4A-3A South region and will host the winner of Mervo and Bel Air at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Essex. Among other Essex schools, Eastern Tech (5-9) is the eighth seed in the 3A-2A North region and will host Patterson in an opening round game at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at CCBC Essex. Little League Player Nails Unassisted Triple Play

A 7-year-old White Marsh baseball player completed a rare play last week.

OUTSIDE BALTIMORE, MD -- If only Little League had instant replay. Cristian Banks, a 7-year-old Fullerton Elementary student, completed a rare unassisted triple play on May 3. Coach Marty Neff, who has been involved with the White Marsh Recreation Council for the past 10 years, said it was the first time he's seen it done by one of his players. It's unusual outside of Little League, as well. According to MLB.com, only 15 unassisted triple plays have been recorded in Major League Baseball history.
