Cooler and Cloudy, Wine and Dessert, Moonlight Paddling

In the midst of back-to-school shopping? Don't forget to have some fun this week.

Here's some information to get your week in Essex-Middle River started:

1. The Weather: Cooler weather will continue this week, according to the National Weather Service. Today will be partly sunny, with a high of about 86. There's a chance of rain showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. tonight, with the overnight low expected to be about 72.

Showers and thunderstorms are "likely" Tuesday and Tuesday night. No more rain is predicted until the weekend, but the rest of the week will see a lot of clouds.

2. From history.com's This Day in History:  "On this day in 1990, fossil hunter Susan Hendrickson discovers three huge bones jutting out of a cliff near Faith, South Dakota. They turn out to be part of the largest-ever Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever discovered, a 65 million-year-old specimen dubbed Sue, after its discoverer."

3. Conrad's Ruth Villa, 3301 Edwards Lane in Bowleys Quarters, will hold "Dessert and Wine" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The event will present six wines that are suitable as desserts or can be served with desserts, according to organizers. Light appetizers and desserts will be served.

Tickets cost $35 per person and reservations are "highly recommended."

4. Ultimate Watersports will hold a moonlight stand-up paddle boarding tour  through Dundee Creek beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Ultimate Watersports operates out of Gunpowder Falls State Park, 7400 Graces Quarters Road.

5. Ultimate Watersports will hold a wildlife tour at 2 p.m. Sunday. Participants may see osprey, bluebirds, yellow perch, cattails, painted turtles, butterflies, fox and muskrats, according to organizers.
