'Rosie the Riveter' Returns to Middle River

Women who worked in the factories at jobs traditionally held by men during World War II will reflect on their experiences during a free event Saturday at Martin State Airport.

Rosie the Riveter is bringing her “We can do it” spirit back to Middle River this weekend.

The will host its sixth annual from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday in Hangar 5, Suite 531 at Martin State Airport.

Women workers from the 1940s are invited to share their work stories during World War II at this free event. In addition, members of the Baltimore Chapter of the American Rosie the Riveter Association will be attending with hopes of meeting many more “Rosies”.

Many of these women produced munitions and other supplies for the war effort as many of the men who traditionally held these jobs were fighting overseas.

The term “” was first coined in 1942 in a song by the same name written by Redd Evans and Jacob Loeb. Rosie became a symbol of American women working in factories during World War II.
