Do Something! for Baltimore

 

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Business Volunteers Unlimited Maryland (BVU) will host a presentation by Paul Schmitz, CEO of Public Allies and author of “Everyone Leads: Building Leadership from the Community Up.” Mr. Schmitz’s presentation will keynote BVU’s Do Something! for Baltimore, a public event highlighting the value and importance of volunteerism, and exposing Baltimoreans to volunteer opportunities.

Do Something! for Baltimore will also include introductions to dozens of nonprofit organizations from throughout the region seeking volunteers, as well as refreshments and networking. This Do Something! presentation is sponsored by OneMain Financial.

As CEO of Public Allies, Paul Schmitz directs the nonprofit organization that develops volunteer leaders who strengthen communities across the country. More than 3,000 Allies have completed the 10-month AmeriCorps program. In Maryland, Public Allies is part of the Social Work Community Outreach Service of the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Mr. Schmitz also co-chairs Voices for National Service and served on President Obama's Transition Team. He currently serves on the White House Council on Community Solutions. He has been recognized by The Rockefeller Foundation as a Next Generation Leadership Fellow, by the Nonprofit Times as one of the 50 most powerful and influential nonprofit leaders in America, and by Fast Company Magazine with their Social Capitalist Award for innovation.

 

Participation in Do Something! is $10. All proceeds support BVU Maryland, the nonprofit organization encouraging and coordinating volunteer experiences for area residents and business. Light fare and cocktails will be provided.
