CCBC’s Baltimore Symphonic Band to Perform at Fort McHenry

The performance, set for June 17, is part of the state's Star-Spangled 200 Sailabration festivities commemorating the War of 1812

The Community College of Baltimore County’s Baltimore Symphonic Band has been selected to perform patriotic music during the Star-Spangled 200 Sailabration festivities commemorating the War of 1812.

The troupe will perform from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 17 at Fort McHenry in Baltimore. The evening’s events will also include fly overs by the and tours of the Tall Ships.

The 60-member community orchestra, under the direction of Christopher Wolfe, assistant principal clarinetist for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and professor of music at CCBC, will perform a concert of patriotic music including:

  • “The Star-Spangled Banner” – arr. By Stamp
  • “American Salute”  (When Johnny Comes Marching Home)
  • “Battle Hymn of the Republic”
  • Armed Forces Hymns including “Anchors Aweigh”
  • Songs from the movie Top Gun (“Take My Breath Away” and  “Danger Zone”)
  • Victory at Sea ( “Guadalcanal March”)
  • Theme from “Mars”
  • John Williams- Olympic Fanfares & Liberty Fanfare, “Hymn to the Fallen”
  • John Philip Sousa’s  “Liberty Bell”
  • “Let Freedom Ring” – a medley of “Yankee Doodle,” “Chester,” “To the Colors,” “Columbia the Gem of the Ocean,” “America the Beautiful”
  • Liszt’s march from “Les Preludes”

The Baltimore Symphonic Band, in residence at CCBC Essex was established in 1981. The group utilizes the skills and talents of all-volunteer membership to provide its audiences with the opportunity to hear quality band music ranging from marches to symphonic works.

Musicians of all ages with variety of musical backgrounds are provided with the opportunity to broaden and apply their musical performance skills. They participate in the band out of the love of playing and performing music.

The band has performed all over Maryland, including the Baltimore Inner Harbor Concert Series, the Bel Air Concert Series, the Aberdeen Concert Series, the Havre de Grace Concert Series, Charlestown Retirement Community, Oak Crest Village, Riderwood Village and at St. Joseph's Church.
