Sports Briefs: CCBC Essex Advances in Region XX Tourney

Knights to face Baltimore City CC in men's basketball semis on Saturday; Kenwood hurdler fares well as state track meet.

Sophomore forward David Ford scored 31 points as CCBC Essex outlasted Chesapeake College, 87-79, in the Region XX men’s basketball quarterfinals on Friday at Hagerstown Community College.

The Knights improved to 18-10 on the season following their third victory of the season over Chesapeake College. CCBC Essex next plays at 1 p.m. Saturday when it takes on Baltimore City Community College, which defeated Potomac State (WVa.) in its quarterfinal game.

CCBC Essex defeated BCCC 103-100 in overtime on Feb. 4.

KENWOOD TRACK: Sophomore Jamie Nixon-Alark placed in fifth in the 55-meter hurdles at the 4A boys indoor track meet this week. His time of 7.97 seconds was a personal best.
