Report: Second Drug Test Expected to Clear Zbikowski

Ravens DB tested negative for marijuana after failing a test last Saturday.

UPDATED (5:12 p.m.)—A second drug test is expected to clear Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski, who had been suspended 45 days by the Chickasaw Nation Boxing Commission for failing a drug test after Saturday's victory in Thackersville, OK, according to BoxingScene.com.

Zbikowski appealed the test, which was reportedly positive for marijuana, or more specifically, THC. All five fighters tested that night were positive for the drug.

Zbikowski's attorney, Mike Joyce, said that the second test was taken in Iverness, IL, near Zbikowski's native Chicago at an independent lab.

"Hopefully, now that we have cleared him, we can get back to boxing," Joyce said.

Zbikowski released a statement in which he expressed satisfaction.

"I'm glad to have my name cleared. It was such a positive experience down in Oklahoma," he said. "But I'm just glad to have this all behind me and to be able to be ready to get back to playing football and professional boxing."

Top Rank Promotions' CEO Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com that he knew Zbikowski would be vindicated.

"The result came back from the lab for Tommy Zbikowski completely clean, and it has been faxed to the Chickasaw Boxing Commission," Arum told BoxingScene.com. "We always knew that Tommy is the epitome of a great athlete, and that he was a clean-living guy, and that the trace of THC that was found was not due to his doing anything wrong."

Jeff Keel, general counsel for the Office of the Gaming Commissioner for the Chickasaw Nation, told BoxingScene.com that if all five fighters post negative test results over the next few days, all suspensions will be lifted.

"I have spoken with Haskell Alexander [Chairman of the Chickasaw Nation Commission] regarding the positive drug tests on the five fighters at WinStar," Keel told BoxingScene.com. "If each of those fighters will submit to us a clean drug test in the next couple of days, we will lift their suspensions."

Zbikowski is now 4-0 as a professional boxer following his first-round technical knockout on Saturday. He was next set to fight on June 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

"Tommy has been tested hundreds of times for drugs throughout college and in the professional football ranks, and he's never tested positive for anything—ever," Joyce told BoxingScene.com. "I wasn't even there for the drug test. I didn't find out about it until the next day."
