Prep Sports: Round 3 Set for Eastern Tech, Lansdowne in Softball Playoffs

Baltimore County powers will compete in the Class 2A North regional finals at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in Essex.

Senior right hander Liz Bondarenko struck out six batters, walked one and yielded just one hit during Thursday's 10-0, Class 2A North Regional semifinal shutout of Baltimore County rival Dundalk.

Bondarenko improved to 8-0 and has a 1.78 ERA, helping the Mavericks rise to 18-0 overall entering Friday's 1:30 p.m. clash with county nemesis Lansdowne.

The Vikings have already lost to the Mavericks twice this season, including in the county championship game earlier this month.

Thomas Williams struck out 10 batters and his Annapolis Area Christian squad backed him up by manufacturing a run over the course of each of the first three innings of Thursday evening's 3-1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference baseball victory over Mount Carmel.

For Mount Carmel, Bobby Sanzone struck out six batters over as many innings in defeat, also going 2-for-3 with a triple and scoring his team's lone run. Cougars' teammate Kory Puller also went 2-for-3.

The Crusaders (16-6) advance into Monday's MIAA B Conference championship game at Ripken Stadium, while the Cougars (17-5) have been relegated to Saturday's loser's bracket elimination game and await the winner between Boys' Latin and Glenelg Country School.

Saturday's triumphant team would have to defeat the Crusaders twice to be declared the winner of the double-elimination affair.

Kenwood Baseball Still Awaiting Postseason Opponent

Rain has delayed the Class 4A North playoffs as Kenwood has waited all week to discover which team it will face in the regional semifinals.

The Bluebirds advanced with a win at Perry Hall on Monday, but Dulaney and Urbana have yet to complete their game with the winner set to face Kenwood.

Kenwood will play the winner of that contest at noon on Saturday at a site to be determined. The Kenwood vs. Dulaney/Urbana winner will then compete for the region title at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
