Prep Sports: Eastern Tech Softball Remains Undefeated

Mavericks top Catonsville, 10-6, while Eastern Tech squanders its lead vs. Comets in baseball.

Freshman right-hander Jordan Cargile struck out nine batters, walked only three and scattered 10 hits during Tuesday's 10-6 softball victory over Baltimore County rival Catonsville.

Cargile improved her record to 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA, and the Mavericks rose to 8-0 overall. Sophomore centerfielder Lindsay Meyers tripled in two runs in the bottom of the third inning, and also contributed defensively with "a great catch in center field for a double play,"  Mavericks coach Jack Meyers said.

Senior third baseman Michelle Mohr was 2-for-4 with a home run and had three assists in the field. Cargile also nailed a triple in the game, and Carly Wheat doubled for the Mavericks.

Eastern Tech returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Franklin at 3:45 p.m.

Eastern Tech Baseball Squanders Big Lead in Loss

Catonsville scored seven runs over the final three innings as the Comets rallied for a 12-11 victory over host Eastern Tech in eight innings.

Neil Westdrop went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, Jimmy Szamski went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Tim Heim went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Mavericks.

Starting pitcher Chris Hook allowed five runs and eight hits while striking out seven and walking four over five innings for Eastern Tech. The Mavericks led 6-1 after four innings before the Comets answered with four runs in the top of the fifth. Eastern Tech then answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 11-5 lead.

Neil Westdorp allowed five runs, three earned and struck out three in 1.1 innings while allowing two runs, one earned, and three hits in 1.2 innings to pick up the loss for Eastern Tech.

The Mavericks host Franklin at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
