Prep Roundup: Dulaney Blanks Eastern Tech in Baseball

Four errors prove costly for Mavericks in first loss of the season.

pitcher Chris Hook allowed four runs, but just one earned, while striking out four and walking four as the Mavericks lost to visiting Dulaney, 4-0, Thursday in baseball.

Troy Schuchmann came in and pitched four shutout innings while striking out three for Eastern Tech (3-1), which committed four errors. The Mavericks are scheduled to host Perry Hall at 3:45 p.m. today.

Senior midfielder Josh Cannella scored two goals as Eastern Tech lost to visiting Perry Hall, 11-5, in boys lacrosse on Wednesday at Eastern Regional Park.

Attackmen Bobby Walsh and Hunter Oleszczuk and midfielder Sam Jackson scored a goal each while goalie Wyatt Almond had three saves for the Mavericks. Eastern Tech is now 4-2 on the season following the loss.

Kenwood Baseball Continues Strong Start

Brandon Hovel pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out four as defeated Dulaney, 4-2, on Wednesday.

Anthony Pelekakis drove in two runs, including one on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning, followed by an RBI single to left field in the third inning for Kenwood, which improved to 4-1. The Bluebirds manufactured insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the victory.

Hovel credited the defensive play of Chad Goings, Edgar Walker, Eddie Cole and Pelekakis with helping him in his performance on the mound.

Kenwood Track Dominates County Competition

Jada Boyd swept the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs as Kenwood won a county track meet with  Overlea, Lansdowne and Chesapeake on Wednesday.

Also for the girls, Bethany Herold won high jump varsity while Telema Korkpan won the triple jump.

On the boys’ side for Kenwood, Travis Jenkins won high jump, 300 hurdles, long jump and placed second in triple jump to Xavier Franklin of Kenwood. In addition, Shawn Strasdauskas won the mile and two-mile runs and placed third in the 800 for the Bluebirds.
