Men's Basketball: CCBC Essex Enters Break on a High Note

Knights have won three straight after topping Mercer Community College, 91-85.

CCBC Essex enters the holiday break on a high note followin a 91-85 home victory over visiting Mercer County Community College in a non-league game.

The Knights (9-6, 4-2 MD JUCO) have won three straight, which includes a 101-55 win on Friday over league rival College of Southern Maryland (0-11, 0-6).

Against Mercer County, CCBC Essex  led the game by as many as 26 points but allowed Mercer County to gain momentum in the second half and outscored Essex 71-51.  Free throws made the difference in the game with sophomore Gregory Hunt (St. Johns Prep) shooting 9-for-10 and freshmen Jerrium Beale (Laurel) going 8-for-8 from the charity line.

Beale led all scorers with 23 points followed by Hunt with a season high 19 points to go along with his seven assists and six rebounds.    Freshmen Hughdon Selby continue to be a spark off the bench for the Knights ending the game with a double-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.  

Against College of Southern Maryland, Frederick Brown came of the bench to finish with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks to record his second triple-double of the season for CCBC Essex. Selby added a season-high 16 points for the Knights.

CCBC Essex next takes the court in Jan. 4 when it hosts conference foe Allegany College (6-5, 3-1).
