Men's Basketball: CCBC Essex Set for Postseason Play

The Knights travel to Prince George's CC on Tuesday for an opening round game in the MD JUCO tournament.

CCBC Essex will is the 11th seed and will play at No. 6 Prince George’s Community College at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round of the MD JUCO men’s basketball tournament.

CCBC Essex finished the regular season 10-14 overall and 7-9 in conference play. Prince George’s CC enters the 16-team tournament at 18-8 overall and 10-6 in MD JUCO competition.

In the regular season, Prince George’s CC defeated CCBC Essex, 76-64, on Dec. 7. The visiting Knights enter this contest 4-6 in their last 10 games, including a 66-64 loss to Howard Community College on Feb. 7.

Sophomore guard Sean Edwards is CCBC Essex's leading scorer at 17.6 points per game, which is good for sixth in the conference. Freshman forward Maurice Byers (Cardinal Gibbons) leads the Knights in rebounds (8.5 per game), while sophomore guards John Holloway and Haasan Nichols are among the MD JUCO leaders in steals at 2.4 per game.

The winners advance to the quarterfinal round, which takes place at Frederick Community College on Friday, beginning at 1 p.m. The semifinal round follows at 5 and 7 p.m. on Saturday with the championship game set for Sunday.
