Mavericks Knock Off Top-Ranked Softball Team

Eastern Tech makes its case for being the best softball team in the area following its 5-2 win over Seton Keough.

's softball team made its case for being the top team in the Baltimore area following two key victories over the weekend.

The Mavericks have now won three straight following a 12-4 victory at on Friday and an 5-2 victory at Seton Keough on Saturday.

Against Perry Hall, Eastern Tech scored eight runs in the third inning and never looked back. Sophomore pitcher Jordan Cargile allowed four runs on six hits and struck out five to pick up with win.

Cargile also helped her cause at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Also, senior first baseman Lauren Channel went 3-for-4 with a homerun and three RBIs in the win.

Against Seton Keough, which had been ranked No. 1 in the latest Varsity Sports Network top 20 poll, senior second baseman Allison Williams drove in two runs while Brianna Casper and Giselle Alvarez each had an RBI triple.

Cargile also picked up the win in this game as she allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out one. Eastern Tech, which had been ranked fifth in the Varsity Sports Network poll, returns to action at 3:45 p.m. Monday when it hosts .

EASTERN TECH BOYS LACROSSE: Senior attack Hunter Oleszczuk scored four goals as the Mavericks rallied for an 8-7 overtime victory over Friday at CCBC Essex.

The Mavericks trailed 7-5 in the fourth quarter before midfielder Caruso Nicholson and Oleszczuk each scored in the final four minutes of regulation. Junior attack Charles Rice, who scored twice in the game, had the game-winning goal on a feed from attack Bobby Walsh.

Goalie Wyatt Almond finished with 14 saves for Eastern Tech, which has won three of its last four games. The Mavericks next play at 3:45 p.m. Monday against at Eastern Regional Park.

KENWOOD TRACK AND FIELD: Travis Jenkins won the long jump and high jumpto help lead the Bluebirds effort Saturday at the Pikesville Invite.

Jenkins won the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, 4 inches and the high jump by clearing a school record 6-04.

On the girls side, senior Rayven Ray came in fourth place in the high jump while Shannon Foster came in fifth in triple jump with a new school record of 33-07.5. 

In all, 40 teams competed in the meet, which Reservoir won on the boys side with 68 points while won the girls meet with 84 points. placed 12th on the boys side with 20 points with the girls taking 17th with six points.
