Sports: CCBC Essex Falls to Stevenson JV

The Knights drop their first men's lacrosse game of the year as the school's baseball and women's lacrosse teams pick up big wins.

CCBC Essex jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but a rough third quarter proved to be the difference as the Knights lost to Stevenson’s JV team, 9-8, Thursday night in Owings Mills.

Freshman attack Andy Thrasher () scored four goals and freshman midfielder Austin Spaulding (St Mary’s Ryken) scored twice for CCBC Essex (3-1), which led 5-2 at halftime. But, the Mustangs responded with eight unanswered goals, including six in the third quarter and never looked back.

Freshman attack Brian White contributed a goal and two assists in the loss for the Knights.  CCBC Essex next plays at 5 p.m. March 16 at CCBC Catonsville.

CCBC Essex Women’s Lacrosse Wins 2nd Straight

Freshman midfielder Emily McBee (Mercy) scored a game-high four goals as the Knights remained undefeated with an 11-10 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College.

Freshman goalie Leanne Bittner () had 15 saves as the Knight improved to 2-0 on the season. CCBC Essex returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Howard Community College.

CCBC Essex Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader

CCBC Essex picked up its first two wins of the year following a sweep Thursday over visiting College of Southern Maryland.

In the first game, sophomore pitcher Nicholas Morton (Parkville) threw a two-hit shutout and freshman outfielder Mike Aiello (Hereford) connected with a two-out, two-RBI single to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning en route to a 3-0 victory.

The Knights then came back and won the second contest 4-0 to improve to 2-4 on the year.

CCBC Essex next plays at 3 p.m. Tuesday at CCBC Catonsville.
