Kenwood's Jenkins Wins State Long Jump Title

The senior became the first Bluebird in 34 years to capture a state track and field championship when he placed first in the long jump.

Kenwood's made history Friday in the Class 4A state track and field championship at Morgan State Univeristy.

Jenkins took first place in the long jump as he cleared 22 feet, 5 inches, which was 8 inches more than the second-place finisher. Jenkins title was the first state title for a track athlete since Mike Sheely in 1978, Bluebirds coach Mark Planamente said.

Jenkins also placed eighth in the high jump as he cleared 5-10 in that event.
