Former Mount Carmel Stars Set for MEAC Tournament

Brandon Baylor plays for Delaware State while Ceslovas Kucinskas plays for the Coppin State men's basketball teams.

Brandon Baylor (Mount Carmel) played one season of basketball at Catonsville Community College before transferring to Delaware State, according to Mt. Carmel head coach Tom Rose. But playing time has been hard to come by this season for Baylor, a reserve guard for Delaware State.

Baylor is a junior for the basketball team in the MEAC. He played in 22 of the first 28 games and averaged 5.3 minutes and 1.0 points per contest.

Delaware State ended its regular-season on Thursday at Maryland-Eastern Shore. The MEAC tournament begins March 7.

Rose also told Patch on Tuesday that he does not know where former Mount Carmel star Troy Franklin plans to head after he announced he was transferring from Towson. "He wants to play at the highest level possible," said Rose, who has spoken to Franklin since he announced he would not play for the Tigers.

Towson did not win a game this season in regular-season play in the CAA and will be the No. 12 and last seed when the tourney begins Friday, March 4 in Richmond.

Rose, who finished his ninth season at Mount Carmel, has another former player at the college level in senior center Ceslovas Kucinskas of Coppin State. He averaged 5.2 points in the first 28 games this season.

Anderson concludes career

Brian Anderson (Eastern Tech) had 18 points and four steals in his last college game for Frostburg State in a 75-71 loss to St. Mary's last month. Frostburg failed to advance to post-season play. A senior guard, Anderson led the team in scoring at 14.1 points per contest. FSU was 11-14 overall.

College lacrosse

Junior midfielder Hector Montoya (Kenwood) is on the men's lacrosse team at Hood College in Frederick. The Division III school lost 23-4 in its season March 2 at Stevenson.

Tony Kikola (Kenwood) is the senior goalie for Belmont Abbey, a Division II lacrosse program in North Carolina. He started the first two games of this season and had 14 saves in the first game.
