Football: Tough Season for Eastern Tech, Kenwood

Essex schools are now a combined 1-7 after their Friday night losses.

Junior tailback Francis Massally rushed for 106 yards on three carries, including a 56-yard touchdown run in the third quarter in Eastern Tech’s 34-10 loss to Parkville Friday night at CCBC Essex.

jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back against the Mavericks (1-3), which has lost two straight. Senior Jim Szamski connected on a 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Eastern Tech’s only other score.

Defensively, Rashard Smith had five tackles and a sack, Brandon Jones had a team-high seven tackles and Charles Rice had an interception for the Mavericks, whose season isn’t likely to get any easier Friday when they travel to Catonsville. The Comets are 5-0 after crushing Hereford, 50-14.

Kenwood Hangs Tough in Loss to Perry Hall
Kenwood senior running back Travis Jenkins had 138 yards of total offense as his team trailed just 14-7 at halftime. But one touchdown is all Kenwood would score as it lost 44-7 to Perry Hall Friday at Homecoming.

Quarterback Devon Diggs completed 10-of-24 passes for 164 yards and ran for a touchdown and Tre Johnson had four catches for 83 yards for the Bluebirds, who allowed 23 points in the fourth quarter.

Defensively for Kenwood, Josh Spencer had 14 tackles and two sacks while Matt Diggs finished with 10 tackles and two sacks.

The Bluebirds (0-5) next play at 7 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn.
