Eastern Tech Ready for Eastside Showdown

The Mavericks are set to host Sparrows Point in an early-season dual meet between two of the better wrestling teams in Baltimore County.

Eastern Tech improved to 2-0 following its 84-0 win Tuesday over Chesapeake.

The Mavericks won every match via forfeit except at 195 pounds, where Mitchell Burns pinned Chesapeake’s Jordan Gale. Eastern Tech returns to the mat at 5:30 p.m. Thursday when it hosts eastern Baltimore County rival Sparrows Point.

The Pointers will be looking for a measure of revenge after they lost to the Mavericks , including in the .

Eastern Tech Girls Basketball Stays Competitive

The Mavericks (1-1) will look to get above .500 at 7 p.m. Friday when they host Dundalk.

Under first-year coach Anthony Washington, Eastern Tech split its first two games, having defeated Northeast 34-30 on Dec. 5 before losing to Chesapeake 33-32 on Dec. 9.

Against Northeast, senior guard Brianna Hall had 12 points and 8 steals, while senior forward Jess Yeager had 12 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists.

In the loss to Chesapeake, Yeager had 11 points, 7 rebounds, 9 steals and 2 assists while freshman guard Kathleen Gettier recorded 4 points, 7 rebounds and a steal.

Mavericks Football Pair to Compete in Crab Bowl

Eastern Tech’s football team might not have made the playoffs this season, but two Mavericks will be competing in a postseason game this weekend.

Safety Milan Barry-Pollock and defensive back/wingback Sayvon Norman will be on the Baltimore roster against a team of Washington-area players as part of the fourth annual Maryland Crab Bowl.

The only statewide all-star football game is set for noon Saturday at Bowie State University.

Mixed Results for Kenwood Track

The Bluebirds girls took first place while the boys team finished fourth in a six-team indoor track meet Dec. 8.  

Other teams that competed in the meet included , , ,  and .

On the girls side, ’s Rachel Bauer broke her own school record in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6 minutes, 11.4 seconds.

Freshman Kaitlynn Armstrong came in second in the pole vault after she cleared 6-foot-6-inches. She is ranked second in both the county and the 4A North region in the event.

Junior Jada Boyd came in second in the 800, third in the 500 and fifth in the 3,200. 

Rakiya Ratliff won the 55-meter dash in a school-record 7.84 seconds and placed third in the 300. Finally, Ashley Fitzpatrick came in third in the shot put and Rayven Ray came in second in high jump.

On the boys side, Jaleel Feggins won the high jump, came in second in the 300 and placed third in the 55.
