Chesapeake Football Continues Playoff Push

The Bayhawks go for their fourth straight win Saturday against Dundalk.

Chesapeake’s football team appears poised to make a run toward the postseason under first-year coach Rocco Bruno.

The Bayhawks go for their fourth straight win at 1 p.m. Saturday against Dundalk. This comes after started the season 0-3.

Entering this week, Chesapeake is second in the Class 2A North region standings. Edmondson (4-2) leads the 10-team region, followed by Chesapeake (3-3), Owings Mills (3-3) and Lake Clifton (2-4). The top four teams in the region make the playoffs.

Chesapeake has plenty of momentum going into its game against Dundalk, as the Bayhawks defeated Loch Raven last week, 40-10.

Running back rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in Chesapeake’s win. Defensively, James Piotrowski led the effort with nine tackles, a forced fumble and three sacks.

Linebacker Russell Sprague ran in an interception for a touchdown at the end of the first half to give Chesapeake a 34-3 lead after two quarters against Loch Raven.

Eastern Tech Girls Soccer Team Continues Roll

The Mavericks are 8-1 following their 7-0 win Tuesday against Parkville. This win comes after Eastern Tech beat Kenwood, 1-0, last Wednesday in a game that counts toward the Eastside Challenge standings.

The challenge is a yearlong competition between the four Essex high schools: Eastern Tech, Kenwood, Chesapeake and Mount Carmel.

Eastern Tech goes for its ninth straight win Friday in a non-conference game at John Carroll.

Kenwood Girls Soccer Falls to County Champs

The loss came after Kenwood cruised to a 9-0 win last Thursday against Lansdowne. Rakiya Ratliff scored three goals, while Pam Critcher scored twice for Kenwood. Brianna Gilliam, Alyssa Williams, Jessica Eckloff and Cierra Wilson each tallied one goal in the win.

Kenwood seeks to get back on track at 4 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Franklin.

Jenkins Reaches Milestone for Kenwood Football

Senior running back continues to be a bright spot for a very frustrating season for the Bluebirds.

With 280 all-purpose yards in last Friday’s 39-26 loss at Woodlawn, Jenkins surpassed 3,000 total yards for his career.

In the loss, Jenkins rushed for 143 yards on nine carries, had four catches for 97 yards and a 40-yard kick return. He also accounted for all of Kenwood’s points as he had touchdown runs of 55 and 10 yards and touchdown receptions of 57 and 22 yards.

Jenkins now has 3,220 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns in his career.

Kenwood (0-6) tries again for its first win of the year at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Franklin.
