CCBC Essex Honors Athletes, Coaches

The college recently recognized its student-athletes, coaches and staff and its annual awards banquet.

CCBC Essex recently held its annual sports awards banquet at Martin's Eastwind in Middle River.

The banquet offered the college to recognize the achievements of its student-athletes, coaches and athletics department staff over the past school year.

Among the highlights of the past year were a Region XX title in and, another winning season and return to the Region XX playoffs for and the , which was nationally-ranked for most of the season after entering this year with a 36-game losing streak.

  • Geoffrey Koger, Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach

Coach of the Year 

  • Kerri Loechner, Women’s Lacrosse

James A Newpher Student Athletes of the Year 

  • Trey Cover – Men’s Lacrosse
  • Emily McBee – Cross Country & Women’s Lacrosse

Also, was recognized for his nine years as head men’s soccer coach. He stepped down after the season to take over as boys soccer coach at , where he is also a teacher.

In addition, CCBC Essex honored Thomas “Hoss” Kopriva and Thomas Wall, who retired after 28 and 20 years of service, respectively.  Both served as athletics technicians and coached soccer at different times in their careers.
