CCBC Essex Hires New, Old Volleyball Coach

Former Geoffrey Koger takes over the Knights program once again after being an assistant in 2011.

Geoffrey Koger won't need much of an adjustment period after being named the new volleyball coach at CCBC Essex last week.

Koger returns to the position he held from 2008-2010 after stepping back and being an assistant with the Knights in 2011. He takes over for Viviana
Zamora-Luna, who resigned after one season after deciding to leave the Baltimore area.

As for Koger, he has spent the last eight years with the program as he was also an assistant coach from 2004-2007. He is the longest tenured member of the current CCBC Essex coaching staff, school athletics director Marc Ershler said.

With Koger in the mix, the volleyball team has qualified for and participated in the NJCAA Region XX Tournament in the past seven consecutive
seasons.

Ershler said Koger, who previously coached at what was then-Villa Julie College and C. Milton Wright High School, was recently named the CCBC Essex Student and Community Service Award recipient for the 2011-12 academic year.

CCBC Essex finished last season 11-19 with an inexperienced roster that included just three sophomores.
