CCBC Essex Baseball Continues Streaky Season

The Knights have lost four of five following their recent six-game winning streak.

Streaky might be the best way to describe CCBC Essex’s baseball team's season to date.

The Knights are 16-11 overall and 9-6 in MD JUCO play, which is good enough for sixth place in the 15-team league heading into tonight’s 6:30 p.m. game at .

CCBC Essex has lost four of its last five games, which includes getting swept in a double-header Saturday at home against Chesapeake College by scores of 14-2 and 14-10, respectively.

Prior to their recent struggles, the Knights had won six straight games. That winning streak came after CCBC Essex opened its season 0-4 before winning nine of its next 12 games.

Among the Knights’ leaders are sophomore pitcher Nicholas Morton, who entered the weekend 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA with 21 strikeouts and 10 walks. The former Parkville standout also hurled a no-hitter and struck seven in the Knights 16-0 victory over visiting College of Philadelphia on March 25.

Offensively, the Knights have several key standouts, including sophomore first baseman Greg Myers (), who entered the weekend batting .361 with 15 RBIs, 20 runs scored and 11 doubles.

MEN’S LACROSSE: The nationally ranked Knights return to action for the first time in 10 days when they host Harford Community College at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

CCBC Essex went into Spring Break having swept its recent road trip with a 10-9 win at Army Prep in West Point, N.Y. and a 13-3 victory at Brookdale Community College (N.J.) on March 31 and April 1, respectively.

Against Brookdale, midfielder Neil Hutchinson () scored three goals, freshman attack Ty Kashur had two goals and two assists, sophomore midfielder Ryan Kissner (C.M. Wright) had two goals and an assist and freshman attack Brian Wright () had a goal and two assists for the Knights (8-2).

CCBC Essex enters the week ranked third in the latest NJCAA national poll.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE: Freshman continues to be an offensive catalyst for CCBC Essex.

The former Mercy standout has 43 goals and seven assists for the Knights (8-3), who return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brookdale Community College.

In her most recent performances, McBee scored eight goals in a 20-15 win over on April 2 before she scored five times in a 20-9 victory over Anne Arundel Community College, which is ranked second in the most recent NJCAA national poll.
