Another Week, Another Rivalry Game for Eastern Tech

Mavericks prepare for key football game at perennial power Hereford on Friday.

Eastern Tech's football team visits Hereford for a critical Baltimore County Class 4A-3A League football game on Friday night.

The visiting Mavericks (1-1 overall, 1-0 league) are coming off of that helped them to bounce back from a 13-2 loss to league rival Franklin.

Hereford (1-2) lost 24-19 last week to Franklin despite leading 12-7 early in the game.

Against Kenwood, overcame an early 8-7 deficit behind junior tailback Francis Massally's 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns, an end zone punt recovery by Milan Barry-Pollock and rushing scores by Barry-Pollock, Daryn Davis, Mark Borunda and Kenyon Crawford (10 tackles).

During nine seasons under coach Marc Mesaros, the Mavericks have won four of nine meetings with the Bulls, which have won three state titles under coach Steve Turnbaugh.

"It has been a great rivalry for a long time because of the mutual respect each of us has for one another,” Mesaros said. "It's always the biggest game of the year, regardless of record, and has traditionally been a hard-hitting, clean game that brings out the best each of our communities has to offer.”

Eastern Tech Soccer Wins First Game

Third-year player and senior Zach Crowther assisted the tying goal by junior Alex Rodriguez in the 33rd minunte, and then converted the game-winner in the 60th minute of Tuesday's come-from-behind, 2-1 victory over Baltimore County rival Sparrows Point.

In victory, the Mavericks improved to 1-2 with their first divisional win of the year, overcoming a 1-0 deficit that came off a goal by the Pointers in the 20th minute. The win comes after losses to Towson and Franklin, respectively. Eastern Tech hosts Dulaney at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Kenwood Girls Soccer Wins Third Straight

The Bluebirds improved to 3-1 on the season following their 8-0 win at Dundalk on Tuesday.

Kenwood has outscored its opponents 30-1 during its three-game winning streak, which included an 8-1 win Thursday against Western Tech.

In the Western Tech game, Pam Critcher and Brianna Gilliam had three goals and two assists each for Kenwood. Rakiya Ratliff and freshman, Erin Forish also scored a goal each for the Bluebirds, who put the game away with five goals in the opening 20 minutes.

Kenwood next plays at 6:30 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Pikesville. Proceeds from the .

Kenwood Splits in Cross Country

Jada Boyd won on the girls side and Shawn Strasdauskas came in second for the boys as Kenwood defeated Pikesville and Milford Mill, but lost to Dulaney on Wednesday.

Boyd finished in 20 minutes, 35.10 seconds, and broke her school record by 40 seconds. She now places herself in the top ten in the county and region. Kenwood (26-7) will next compete Saturday in the Bull Run at Hereford.
