Video: Mt. Carmel Principal Takes to Roof

Christine Olszewski spent Wednesday reading on the roof of the lower school at Mt. Carmel.

Christine Olszewski is a woman of her word.

That's what students at the lower school at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel found Wednesday morning when they saw her perched above the school's entrance with a camp chair, children's books, blankets and a propane heater.

Olszewski picked the day to spend reading outside as part of a national contest during National Young Readers Week.

She considered going up to a higher roof on the building.

"Then I got up to this height and I was like, 'This is just fine,'" she quipped.

Her reading selections for the day include "Wimpy Kid" books, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and a timely selection lent to her by a student Wednesday morning, "The Principal's On The Roof," an excerpt of which Olszewski read for Patch.

A similar rooftop exercise will take place Friday at Middleborough Elementary School.
