Schools to Close Two Hours Early Friday

Excessive heat will cut the school day short.

Due to, schools will close two hours early Friday, Baltimore County Public Schools officials announced.

A total of 80 schools across the county do not offer complete air conditioning, compiled by County Councilman David Marks.

Friday will mark the third day in a row of early closures.

The National Weather Service has issued several weather alerts over the Baltimore County area. 

  • An air quality alert will continue into Friday.
  • A hazardous weather outlook warns of strong winds and scattered thunderstorms that may be especially dangerous for those living near the Chesapeake Bay and other bodies of water. 

Temperatures are expected to linger in the upper 80s and mid-90s until Friday. Heat index values could reach 105.

NWS officials suggest the following safety tips to avoid heat illnesses:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room.
  • Stay out of the sun.
  • Check in on relatives and neighbors.
  • Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
  • When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
