Kenwood Addresses Parents of JV Football Team

Principal Paul Martin sent a letter home after several players and a female student were caught engaging in what was termed "inappropriate activities" at the Essex school.

Here is the text of a letter sent Wednesday by principal Paul Martin to parents of students on the junior varsity football team after several players were caught engaging in what was termed with a female student. A copy of the letter was obtained by Patch.

Dear Parents of the Kenwood Junior Varsity Football Team,

For the last two school days, the administration has been investigating a situation that occurred after school with a female member of our student body and members of the Junior Varsity Football team.  There have been a number of boys who have received school sanctions and will be removed from the football team.  There are other boys who had knowledge of what was occurring and did not report this information to any member of the coaching staff, a teacher, a guidance counselor, or an administrator.

After much discussion with the members of the administration who have been actively involved in the investigation, it is our decision that Kenwood High School will forfeit the game scheduled against Eastern Technical High School on Friday, September 16th.  We have discussed this with the members of the team and explained that this situation is to be a time where they reflect upon their level of participation in this event and how this situation reflects upon the rest of the student body of Kenwood High School.

It is our hope that any member of the team who has information will bring it to a member of the administration’s attention.  Students were told at an assembly last week that they are ambassadors of the school.  It is also important that I reiterate that from this point in time, any attempts to contact the young lady, to continue discussing the situation, and/or making threats towards students who may or may not have been involved in the investigation will not be tolerated.

It is our wish that the boys will have a good and successful rest of the season.  If you should have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact either Mrs. Allison Seymour or Mrs. Laura Koehler, assistant principals, at (410) 887-0153.

Sincerely,

Paul D. Martin

Principal
