Women in Aviation

 The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum's March Aviation Speaker Event will present a panel discussion on Women in Aviation. The panel will cover challenges and opportunities for women in the aviation industry and also flying for personal pleasure. The Panel will include: Susan Langreth Merryman, Marianne Ashman, Carolyn Motz, Jane Toskes, Jane Welsh, and Michelle Retman.

Susan Langreth Merryman, B.A. Zoology, PhD Biology, spent her career in parasitology and microbiology.  She obtained her Private Pilot License at age 55 and began to enjoy flying with her husband/Instructor, Marvin Merryman, a professional pilot all of his life.  Susan is presently a member of the Board of Directors of the Museum.

Marianne Ashman, B.A. Business, holds an ATP (Air Transport Pilot) and CFI (Certificated Flight Instructor) ratings.  She has flown commuter and corporate jets and presently works as a Flight Instructor at Brett Aviation in Middle River.

Carolyn Motz, B.A. Education.  After several years in Education, she became the Operations Manager and then Airport Director of Hagerstown Regional Airport, in Hagerstown, Maryland host airport to Air Force One.

Jane Toskes, B.A. and M.S. Biology and taught for several years prior to obtaining her ATP rating and co-founding AmAv in 1997 and began her career in Corporate Aviation and Co-Manages this aviation business at Martin State Airport.  She is type rated in several jets which she flies as Captain.

Jane Welsh, B.A. Government and Political Science, presently serves as the Education and Volunteer Coordinator for College Park Aviation Museum.

Michelle Retman, BS Air Traffic Control, joined the Air Force in 1998, working with RADAR and as an air traffic controller for 8 years including in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. She has been an air traffic controller at Martin State Airport since 2006.

Admission to the GLMMAM speaker series is free and a photo ID is required of all attendees. Children must be escorted by an adult with a photo ID.
