Investigative Journalist Scott Carney to Speak at CCBC Essex

Investigative journalist Scott Carney will be the October Spotlight Speaker at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

A contributing editor at "Wired" and a contributor to "Mother Jones," "Foreign Policy," "Discover," "Outside," and "Fast Company," Carney has also appeared on a variety of radio and television stations, including National Public Radio (NPR) and National Geographic TV.

Carney has worked in some of the most dangerous and unlikely corners of the world.  In 2010 he won the Payne Award for Ethics in Journalism for the story “Meet the Parents” which tracked an international kidnapping-to-adoption ring.

His new book, “The Red Market: On the Trail of the World’s Organ Brokers, Bone Thieves, Blood Farmers and Child Traffickers,” which was published by William Morrow in 2011, exposes the underbelly of international human trafficking and organ market.

He first traveled to India while he was a student at Kenyon College in 1998 where he learned Hindi.  He has spent more than half a decade in South Asia.
