Essex Girls Soccer Teams Advance in Postseason

Kenwood, Eastern Tech move on to regional semifinals following wins on Tuesday.

Brianna Gilliam and Rakiya Ratliff scored a goal each as the Kenwood girls soccer team defeated Springbrook, 2-1, Tuesday in the Class 4A North quarterfinals.

Midfielder Cierra Wilson had two assists, while goalie Katlynn Red had three saves for , which outshot Montgomery County's Springbrook, 18-6. Bluebirds coach Chris Mattern also credited defenders Mercedes Butler and Alyssa Williams for holding Springbrook in check for most of the match.

Kenwood next plays Friday when it travels to face Catonsville in a regional semifinal match. The Comets advanced with a 5-1 win over Blake.

Eastern Tech Girls Advance, Boys Fall in Soccer

The girls soccer team advanced to the Class 3A North semifinals with a 1-0 win over Towson on Tuesday at CCBC Essex.

The Mavericks will host Franklin in a semifinal match at 4 p.m. Friday at Eastern Tech. advanced with a 5-3 win over top-seeded City.

On the boys' side, Eastern Tech's season ended with a 2-1 loss at Hereford in the Class 3A North quarterfinals. Hereford advances to host Aberdeen, which topped Patterson in its quarterfinal match.

Eastern Tech Volleyball Ready for Postseason

Eastern Tech will travel to Hereford for a Class 3A North opening round match at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The Mavericks (13-3) enter the postseason on a roll as they have won nine straight matches and have not dropped a game during that stretch. But  Hereford did beat Eastern Tech 3-2 on Sept. 14.

Chesapeake Football Wins County Title

solidified its playoff chances and clinched the Baltimore County 2A/3A/4A title with its 24-14 win over Dulaney on Saturday.

Running back Malcolm Dowery had two touchdown runs of 70 yards and quarterback James Johnson also ran for a score for Chesapeake (6-3), which has won six straight.

Bayhawks defensive coordinator Bobby Curran also credited the play of defensive linemen Salaam Muhammed, Zach Skelly, Chance Young, Brentice Johnson and Rodney Jenkins, who all helped limit Dulaney's running attack.

Chesapeake has maintained its hold on the second seed in the Class 2A North. Edmondson (6-3) is the top seed, with Owings Mills (5-4) and Lake Clifton (5-4) in third and fourth, respectively. The top four teams will advance to the regional playoffs.

Chesapeake closes out the regular season at 2 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Randallstown.
