Eastern Tech Students Succeed at Business Competition

Several students will compete in Future Business Leaders of America competition from April 7-9 in Hunt Valley.

is full of "Whiz Kids" on its Essex campus.

This includes several students who recently competed in a regional competition for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). The FBLA is a national organization that allows students interested in business to compete against other students, nationwide, on various business topics.

Eastern Tech had students place in 10 different events at its most recent FBLA competition.

This includes:

  • Danielle Cockey for first place in accounting I
  • Joe Banner and Raquel Bailon for first and second place in accounting II
  • Eva Kamau for first place in public speaking II
  • Scott Seiss (second place), Jazmine McSwain (fourth place) and Hui Tang (fifth place) in business calculations
  • Bansi Patel for fourth place in introduction to business
  • Jasmin Grewal for second place in introduction to business communications
  •  Ayra Ayhon for second place in personal finance
  • Kavolena Doh for fourth place in personal finance
  • Michael Carter (fourth place) and Christopher Hook (fifth place) in sports management
  • Lily Thongdygnalat (third place) and Jessica Macias (fourth place) in spreadsheet applications
  • The team of Cierra Andrews, Jared Erondu and Jordan Willinger took sixth place in entrepreneurship. 

Following Regional Competitions, the next step is to compete at the Maryland State FBLA Competitions, which will take place in Hunt Valley, Maryland from April 7-9, 2011. Six of Eastern Tech’s students will continue at this level—Cockey, Banner, Bailon, Ayhon, Seiss and Kamau qualified for the state competition.
