Eastern Tech Ranks High in National Academic Contest
The Essex high school ranked fourth in Baltimore County in the annual High School Challenge project.
Eastern Technical High School has been named one of the country's top high schools based on academic rigor, according to an annual project compiled by The Washington Post.
Eastern Tech placed 492nd out of 1,900 high schools nationwide and fourth among the 13 Baltimore County schools that were ranked. From 27,000 high schools across the nation, the list represents the top 7 percent of high schools in the nation, based on total student participation in highly rigorous coursework and exams.

Schools are graded by the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests taken by all students in 2010, divided by the number of graduating seniors, according to a release.
Towson (264), Dulaney (282) and Carver A&T (487) were the only schools in Baltimore County to edge Eastern Tech.

“By examining the Advanced Placement tests available and undertaken by students, the High School Challenge reflects the increasing rigor and excellence of our high schools and our students,” said Superintendent Joe A. Hairston in a release. “This recognition reinforces the fact that our students are among the best prepared in the nation for the demands of a rapidly changing workplace and world.”
