Deep Creek Middle Teacher to Participate in Library of Congress Program

Social studies teacher Maria Gore has been selected to attend the "Teaching with Primary Resources" summer institute in Washington.

Two Baltimore County Public Schools teachers, including one from an Essex school, will invest a week of their time this summer to provide better educational experiences for their students when the new school year begins.

Deep Creek Middle School social studies teacher Maria Gore and Joquetta Johnson, a library media specialist at Pikesville High School, will participate in the weeklong "Teaching with Primary Resources" summer teacher institute at the Library of Congress in Washington, according to a statement from the school system.

Beginning Aug. 5, Gore and Johnson will "work with Library of Congress education specialists and subject-matter experts to learn effective practices for using primary resources in the classroom and to explore the digitized historical artifacts and documents available on the Library of Congress website," according to the statement.

The competitively selected participants come from a variety of areas and represent large metropolitan and small rural school districts across the country, according to the statement. Participants include teachers, library media specialists and school administrators.
