Chesapeake Takes Top Prize in BCPS Game Competition

The student project "Red Room" was honored for game production this week.

Teams from Eastern Tech and Chesapeake high schools took home awards Wednesday in a Baltimore County Public Schools game design competition.

Chesapeake claimed a first prize in game production in the school system's fourth annual Project L.i.V.E. ( that stands for “Learning in Virtual Environments”), officials announced Friday.

Teacher Justin Patterson, quoted in a BCPS release, described the winning project, titled "Red Room," as a "1930s, film noir-esque story." The game was also awarded second place in the game design category.

“The students did an amazing job of incorporating what they learned in class into the game," forensics teacher Krystal Romanowski said in the release.

Student Tymisha McDaniels, one of nine who worked on the project, said coding was the most challenging part for the student team.

“We went through many trials and errors," she said. "We made so many errors. It was ridiculous, but we fixed them.”
