Kurtinitis said receiving the award was one of the top highlights in her more than four decades of working with community colleges.

“Although I have served the community college world for 44 years in various capacities at four different community colleges, I cannot recall receiving an honor that I value as highly as this one, given its namesake,” Kurtinitis said in a statement. “Mildred Bulpitt is an icon among women within community colleges and has served as an inspiration to many.”

This award is just the latest honor for Kurtinitis, who was also the recipient of the MetLife Foundation Community College Excellence Award and was honored by the United Way of Central Maryland, Women’s Leadership Council.

In addition, she has chaired the Commission for Lifelong Learning for the American Council on Education, has served on the Commission on Economic and Workforce Development for the American Association of Community Colleges, and most recently was selected to participate in the White House Summit on Community Colleges in Philadelphia.
