Baltimore County Schools To Be Closed Monday
Sixty-five county schools remain without power, Superintendent Joseph Hairston told parents via a recorded message.
Summer break just got one day longer for students in Baltimore County.
Baltimore County Public Schools will be closed Monday as the region continues to , school officials announced Sunday.
In a recorded phone message to parents, Superintendent Joe Hairston said that between power outages and concerns for students' safety, closing schools was the only option. Monday was supposed to be the first day of school for students.

"Sixty-five schools are without power," Hairston said in the recorded message which went out to 105,000 students. "Many roads are blocked, there are fallen trees and traffic lights are out. Those reasons and student safety led us to close schools on Monday."
In a news release Hairston said he and his team work with county officials and will continue to monitor recovery efforts before making a determination when schools can reopen.
