Weekend MARC Service Coming in December

By Tim Lemke

It will soon be possible to ride the rails into Washington or Baltimore on weekends.

Gov. Martin O'Malley said Wednesday that the MARC Penn Line will introduce Saturday and Sunday service beginning on December 7.

The service will include nine round trips on Saturday and six on Sunday.

O'Malley said there will be $46 million for the service, approved as part of the Transportation Infrastructure Investment Act of 2013.

In addition, the governor said there will be an additional $52 million set aside to allow MARC to buy 10 new diesel locomotives and to add two daily round trips on the Camden Line.

Are you happy that MARC will add weekend service on the Penn Line?
