Police Name New Essex Precinct Captain

Capt. Steven Hlavach will take over as precinct commander on Dec. 16.

Baltimore County police Capt. Steven Hlavach is expected to become the Essex Precinct's new commander.

Hlavach, who is currently assigned to special services, is one of five new commanders appointed to new command posts by Chief Jim Johnson, county police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said.

Hlavach, along with the other four new commanders, will start their new jobs on Dec. 16, Armacost said.

Hlavach takes over at Essex for , who retired last month after more than 35 years with the department. DiPaula spent his final four years with the department at the Essex Precinct.

The Baltimore County Police Department announced on Thursday night that they were naming five new precinct captains to replace those who retired as part of the command staff departures in early November, or who were promoted to department command staff last Wednesday.

Other precincts expected to see a change in leadership include Woodlawn, Towson, Cockeysville and Parkville, according to a Baltimore County news release.
