Olszewski Jr. Elected Chairman of County's Annapolis Delegation

Second-term delegate succeeds Del. Eric Bromwell, who was chairman of the delegation for all four years of the last term.

The Olszewskis now have two chairmen in the family.

Del. John Olszewski Jr., a Dundalk Democrat, today was elected chairman of the county delegation for the 2011 session. His father, John Olszewski Sr. was elected to his second consecutive term as chairman of the County Council.

“I am honored to have the confidence of my colleagues in the Baltimore County House Delegation,” Olszewski, Jr. said in a statement immediately following the vote. “I will work hard for our members and all the residents of the county as an affirmation of the support I have been shown.”

The younger Olszewski succeeds Del. Eric Bromwell, who was chairman of the delegation for all four years of the last term.

"John is obviously a rising star in this delegation and in the House of Delegates," Bromwell said of his fellow Democrat.

Del. Olszewski praised outgoing chairman Bromwell for his efforts the prior term.  

“Delegate Bromwell did an excellent job of helping the delegation along: identifying key priorities for the county and cultivating important relationships,” Del. Olszewski said. “I expect to fully rely on his skills as our delegation continues moving forward.”

Del. Steve Lafferty, a Towson Democrat, was elected as vice chairman of the delegation. Del. Dana Stein, A Democrat who represents Pikesville, Owings Mills and Reisterstown, was elected secretary of the delegation.

The General Assembly begins its 90-day session tomorrow.

Del. Olszewski was elected to his second term in the Maryland House of Delegates in November of 2010. In addition to his recent election to the chairmanship of the Baltimore County delegation, he currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and the Maryland P-20 Leadership Council.  

Del. Olszewski is also the co-chairman of the Maryland Youth Advisory Council.
