New Fire Station Opens in Middle River

A new $7 million facility at the Warfield Air National Guard base will serve the military, Martin State Airport and the surrounding community.

The Middle River community received a new public safety resource Thursday as a new fire station officially opened at the Warfield Air National Guard base.

The new $7 million facility replaced a fire station that was more than 40 years old had cracks in the walls, a leaky roof and a lack of space for training, according to a news release. The old building didn’t even have enough space to house the department’s fire trucks.

According to the Maryland Air National Guard, the new station is 21,000 square feet, has a classroom that seats 40 people, includes a dispatch center and can house eight pieces of firefighting equipment.

Firefighters at the station—which was paid with federal funds—respond to call at the base, at adjacent Martin State Airport along with assisting the Baltimore County Fire Department with emergencies such as house fires and car accidents in the surrounding communities.
